One of the chemicals released by the mast cells is histamine. The chemical increases the local blood flow, smooth muscle contraction and vascular permeability. Once almonds are eaten, the throat can become inflamed and swell in just seconds.
In severe cases, the instigation of the mast cells will lead to complete anaphylaxis that result to extensive vascular permeability which results to a decrease in the blood pressure, difficulty breathing and constriction of the airway.
