Take note that cold therapy works by numbing the pain and provide relief from migraine headaches. Just remember that when cold packs are used, do not leave one on the skin for more than 20 minutes at a time.

Increased fluid intake

The individual should be encouraged to drink plenty of water to properly hydrate the body as well as prevent dehydration that can cause a migraine headache. Ideally, the individual should try out decaffeinated beverages since caffeine will only worsen dehydration.

In case the individual is well-hydrated, he/she can try drinking a caffeinated beverage to restrict the blood vessels to reduce the pain. Take note that the caffeine intake must be limited since it can trigger migraines in some individuals instead of relieving the pain.

Nutritional supplements

Including nutritional supplements in the diet such as magnesium, riboflavin and coenzyme Q10 as well as melatonin can help manage migraine headaches. Even though these supplements have not been proven to be beneficial in reducing migraines acutely, many individuals considered them useful in preventively managing them.
