Some reasons for excess ear wax in some individuals can be different from other reasons of accumulation of wax in the ears. It is believed that some individuals are considered as wax producers where they naturally produce excess ear wax. In any case, excess ear wax can cause pain, tinnitus, inflammation or ear drainage is the symptoms that usually reveal an underlying medical condition. Inner ear infection
Once ear perforation develops, there is an increased risk for ending up with an infection in the interior ear. Bacteria will readily access the interior ear via the hole in the membrane’s tissue. In the middle ear, the sebaceous glands generate wax for the removal of dirt and wastes out of the middle ear while at the same time prevent bacteria from entering the inner ear. Once an inner ear infection develops, the wax could no longer remove the bacteria from the inner ear. Additionally, any pus that drains into the middle ear can result to the production of excessive wax that leads to the buildup of wax.
Perforation of the ear
The eardrum is the oval membrane that splits the middle ear from the interior ear. The tissue membrane is very thin and delicate. Once the tissue tears, it leads to ear perforation. Due to the production of wax in the middle ear, the wax could not migrate out of the affected ear. This results to the buildup of excessive wax.
The causes of ear perforation include rapid change in the blood pressure, excessive loud noises or physical trauma such as injury to the head or objects inserted into the ear, particularly cotton swabs.
Earplugs, hearing aids and headphones are some instruments that can cause the buildup of wax since they block the natural migration of wax. On the other hand, buildup of wax stems from inappropriate or regular cleaning methods. Those who use hearing instruments should observe a regular cleansing routine for the removal of accumulated wax while preventing the accumulation in the ears.
Individuals who use hearing aids should follow methods as recommended by the doctor when cleaning the device along with the accessories and parts.
It is important to note that ear candling is an alternative method utilized for cleaning the buildup of wax in the ears. It is sad to note that ear candling can lead to excess buildup of wax, thus using candling products are not recommended due to possible injury that can be sustained to the ear.
Ear candling can injure the ear while the remainder from the candling product might stay inside the ear. There is an increase in the production of wax as a response to the debris in the ear canal in an attempt to lubricate the damaged tissue.
