Prevention

The risk for developing the condition can be reduced by avoiding areas that might be infested by ticks. If in an area where ticks are suspected, wear proper clothing such as long pants tucked into the socks, long-sleeved shirts and closed-toe shoes.

It is also beneficial to use light-colored clothes since ticks are hard to pinpoint on dark clothing. It is also recommended to apply an insect repellant to keep ticks away.

After spending time in tick-infested areas, do not forget to check your clothes and body for any ticks before moving indoors. Ticks that are fixed in the skin must be removed using tweezers right away.
