Quick Thinking Saves a Life

Without hesitation, Vickers called 911 and immediately began performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). He helped remove the man from the vehicle and continued CPR until emergency crews arrived.

“We removed him and administered CPR immediately,” Vickers said. “It was about five minutes until Burnaby firefighters arrived and took over the scene.”

Those first few minutes were critical. Firefighters and paramedics continued life-saving care upon arrival, stabilizing the driver before transporting him to hospital. No further updates on the man’s condition have been released.

Why CPR Training Matters

Sudden cardiac arrest can happen anywhere — even behind the wheel of a vehicle. When it does, immediate CPR can double or even triple A person’s chance of survival. This incident highlights how everyday people can play a vital role in saving lives when they have proper training.
