Preschooler Found Unconscious in Pool in Val-des-Monts

Police are investigating a serious incident after a three-year-old child was found unconscious in a backyard swimming pool during a Sunday afternoon birthday party in the Outaouais community of Val-des-Monts, approximately 15 kilometres northeast of Gatineau.

The incident occurred around 1:20 p.m. at a residence on Chemin des Terres. Emergency responders were called after the child was discovered in an above-ground pool while several children and adults were attending the gathering. Child Rushed to Hospital After CPR

According to Constable Miguel Belzile of the MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais, the toddler was initially transported by ambulance to Gatineau Hospital before being transferred to the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario. At the time of reporting, the child was listed in critical but stable condition.

Family members pulled the child from the pool and immediately began performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) before paramedics arrived. Police noted that while adults were present at the party, there were many children attending, emphasizing how quickly water-related emergencies can occur—even when supervision is nearby.
