Man Shot and Killed by RCMP on Fishing Lake First Nation
A man was shot and killed by police during an officer-involved incident on the Fishing Lake First Nation on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).
Officers from the Wadena RCMP detachment were called to a residence at approximately 1:23 p.m. on Aug. 27, 2019, after receiving reports that a man armed with a knife was causing a disturbance outside a home in the community.
Police Response and Medical Aid
Two officers responded to the call. Shortly after arriving on scene, at least one officer discharged their firearm, injuring the man. Police immediately requested medical assistance and began providing first aid until paramedics from Wadena Emergency Medical Services arrived and continued treatment.
Additional RCMP officers secured the area and assisted paramedics. Despite life-saving efforts, the man died at the scene.
According to details reported by CBC News, RCMP later confirmed that the shooting occurred shortly after officers arrived and that emergency care was provided immediately following the incident.

RCMP Statement and Investigation
RCMP Chief Superintendent Alfredo Bangloy described the incident as tragic for everyone involved, including the victim’s family, the community, and the officers who responded.
As per RCMP protocol, the two officers involved were relieved of duty. The Moose Jaw Police Service is leading the external investigation, with an independent observer appointed to assess the quality and integrity of the process. Police say no further details will be released at this time to avoid interfering with the investigation.
