Laval Man Drowns at Yamaska Park: A Tragic Reminder About Water Safety

A 35-year-old man from Laval tragically lost his life following a drowning incident at the Choinière Reservoir in Yamaska Provincial Park, located in Quebec’s Eastern Townships. The reservoir, a man-made body of water, is a popular destination for swimming and outdoor recreation during the summer months.

Emergency services were called to Roxton Pond Park at approximately 6:00 p.m. after reports of a man missing in the water. According to initial information released by the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), the man had been swimming with at least two other individuals when he suddenly disappeared beneath the surface.

After what police described as “long minutes,” the man was pulled from the water unconscious. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was immediately attempted at the scene. Despite these life-saving efforts, the man was transported to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Authorities stated that alcohol may have been a contributing factor.

The Sûreté du Québec has launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the drowning. Investigators and the SQ’s forensic identification service have been assigned to the case.

Why CPR Training Is Critical

Drowning emergencies happen quickly and often without warning. Immediate intervention—especially CPR—can significantly improve survival outcomes while waiting for emergency responders to arrive. Knowing how to respond in these critical moments can mean the difference between life and death.

Learning proper CPR techniques through hands-on training helps individuals feel confident and prepared during emergencies at lakes, pools, beaches, and even at home.
