Man in Critical Condition After Northeast Calgary House Fire
A man remains in critical, life-threatening condition after a house fire in northeast Calgary on Sunday morning, highlighting how vital quick emergency response and CPR can be during fire-related emergencies.
Emergency crews were called to the 100 block of Templeby Drive N.E. at approximately 10:30 a.m. Firefighters arrived to find a large volume of smoke and active flames, with the fire extending from the main floor into the attic, according to Calgary Fire Department officials.
During a search of the home, firefighters located the victim inside the residence. Neighbours reported that the man is in his 20s. Once he was removed from the house, firefighters immediately began CPR until paramedics arrived and took over care. The man was then transported to Peter Lougheed Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
EMS spokesperson Stuart Brideaux said it is still too early to confirm whether the man’s injuries were directly caused by the fire or smoke inhalation.
No one else was inside the home at the time of the fire. A neighbour told CTV News that the man’s wife and children were staying with their grandmother for the weekend, meaning he was alone when the fire occurred.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Calgary Fire Department officials are asking anyone with information, photos, or video related to the incident to contact them at [email protected].
