Emergency Response and Life-Saving Efforts
According to reports, the boy’s father began performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) while waiting for police and paramedics to arrive. When emergency medical technicians reached the scene, they continued resuscitation efforts and used a defibrillator while transporting the child to hospital. Unfortunately, neither a pulse nor breathing could be restored.
Bruce Dyotte, spokesperson for the Coopérative des techniciens ambulanciers de la Montérégie (CETAM), stated that preliminary information suggests the child may have been underwater for approximately two to three minutes.

The Importance of Water Safety and CPR Training
Drowning incidents involving young children can happen quickly and silently, even in familiar settings such as backyard pools. This tragedy highlights the critical importance of constant supervision around water and the ability to respond immediately during emergencies.
Immediate delivery of CPR can significantly improve survival chances during drowning and cardiac emergencies. Parents, caregivers, and community members who are trained in CPR are better prepared to act while waiting for emergency responders to arrive. Enrolling in professional CPR and AED training—such as the First Aid and CPR Courses offered by Winnipeg First Aid—helps individuals gain practical, hands-on skills for real-life emergencies.
