Timely CPR and AED crucial in saving a life
A man who collapsed before a hockey game would not be alive without the quick delivery of life-saving measures. The man only remembers waking up in an ambulance with difficult breathing and not knowing what has happened.
Saving a life
As the man heads up to the ice, he suddenly slumped to the ground. One of the teammates saw the man attempting to hold himself up with his stick but collapsed.
When his teammates check on him, the man was having a hard time breathing. It was then that his eyes rolled back and had no more pulse and stops breathing.
Timely action
The man was transferred away from the ice. CPR was quickly started while a teammate retrieved the AED. The device delivered a shock but it did not restore a pulse.
As they continued with CPR, the firefighters arrived on the scene. They attached an AED and delivered another shock and restored a sketchy pulse.
The man was loaded into an ambulance once the paramedics arrived.
The man underwent triple bypass surgery the next day. Now, he is on the road to recovery and expected to fully recover in three months. Although he will be under medications for life, he was given a go to return to the ice.
