Canadiens’ Subban “Really Happy” Baby Hit by Puck Is Back Home

A frightening incident at a Montreal Canadiens fan practice ended with relief after a one-month-old infant injured by a flying puck was released from hospital and returned home safely.

The incident occurred during the Canadiens’ annual public practice at the Bell Centre, where players traditionally toss souvenir pucks into the crowd. During this event, a puck thrown by fan favourite P.K. Subban accidentally struck infant Béatrice Meloche in the head.

Freak Accident in the Stands

According to the child’s mother, Valérie Meloche, the puck was first touched by an adult who fumbled it. The puck then deflected off two other spectators before striking the baby’s head—an incident Canadiens officials later described as a “freak accident.”

The infant suffered a concussion and was transported to the Montreal Children’s Hospital, where she remained overnight for observation. Reports also indicated that CPR was administered on site as a precautionary emergency response. The child was released the following day and returned home safely.

Canadiens and Subban React

Canadiens vice-president of communications Donald Beauchamp stated that neither Subban nor team officials were aware of the incident until media reports surfaced the following morning. Subban was deeply upset upon learning what had happened but expressed relief once he knew the baby was recovering well.
