Edmonton Man, 25, Drowns in B.C.’s Okanagan Lake Despite CPR Efforts

A tragic incident at Okanagan Lake has claimed the life of a 25-year-old man from Edmonton, highlighting how quickly water emergencies can unfold—even when bystanders act immediately.

What Happened

According to CBC News, the young man was swimming in Okanagan Lake when he suddenly went under the water and did not resurface. Family members nearby began screaming for help, prompting people at the campground to rush toward the lake.

Bystanders were able to pull the swimmer from the water and began performing CPR right away, demonstrating quick thinking during a critical moment. Emergency Response

Paramedics were dispatched to the scene, with officers from the West Kelowna RCMP assisting in the response. Emergency crews took over CPR from the bystanders, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey said the swimmer went under suddenly and without warning. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police later acknowledged the efforts of the bystanders who acted quickly to help.

Investigation Ongoing

West Kelowna RCMP are assisting the BC Coroners Service as they investigate the circumstances surrounding the drowning.
