Quick-Thinking Car Dealership Staff Save Co-Worker With an AED
A 65-year-old man is alive today because his co-workers acted quickly and had access to an automated external defibrillator (AED). The life-saving incident took place at Wheaton GMC Buick Cadillac in Saskatoon and highlights how CPR training and AED availability can make the difference between life and death.
According to an original report by CBC News, Ted Brown, an employee at the dealership, suffered a sudden cardiac arrest while at work on March 31. Without warning, Brown collapsed, and his co-workers immediately recognized the seriousness of the situation.

Immediate CPR and AED Use Saved a Life
Brown’s colleagues didn’t hesitate. CPR was started right away while another employee called 911. At the same time, staff retrieved the company’s AED and prepared it for use.
One of the responders later explained that although he had never personally used an AED—and another employee had only learned about it during training—they knew time was critical. With nothing to lose, they applied the AED pads and followed the device’s clear voice prompts.
Their quick decision to act proved lifesaving. Brown was rushed to hospital in serious condition but has since recovered.
A Grateful Family and a Powerful Message
Ted Brown’s wife, Brenda, later shared her gratitude, saying her husband is alive because his co-workers were willing to step in during a crisis. She emphasized how important it is for workplaces to not only have AEDs available, but also to ensure staff know where they are and feel confident using them.
Why CPR and AED Training Matters
Sudden cardiac arrest can happen anywhere—at work, at home, or in public spaces. When it does, immediate CPR and early AED use can dramatically increase survival chances before paramedics arrive.
That’s why learning CPR and AED skills is so important. Through professional training, everyday people gain the confidence to respond effectively in real emergencies.
