These are all three CSA approved first aid courses that are also provincially approved. Basic first aid, also referred to as emergency first aid is a one day course that includes CPR and AED training. Intermediate first aid, also referred to as standard first aid, is a two day course that includes the same topics as emergency first aid but with additional first aid training and potentially a higher level of CPR certification. Advanced first aid is a two week course that includes all the topics of standard first aid but significantly more.
Emergency first aid is identical to basic first aid. In 2023, Canada and Manitoba agreed to begin using the same name for the courses in order to prevent confusion. Within the next few years the term “emergency first aid” will be removed and all the one day courses will be referred to as basic first aid.
Similar to the question above, these two courses are identical. CSA and provincial standards are pushing to make all the providers to use the same name to prevent confusion. Within the next few years all standard first aid courses will be called intermediate first aid.
CPR level A is designed for individuals that want to learn CPR for adult victims only. CPR level “C” covers victims of all ages. HCP is designed for health care providers which include trained back up and more equipment such as bag valve masks.
